May 2010

Name: Lauren Arens

College/University: Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU)

Organizations Involved In: Northwest Chapter of Business and Professional Women (Treasurer)

Accounting Field of Interest: Public Accounting

Reason for Nomination: Lauren is an outstanding student in NWMSU's undergraduate accounting program, which is why she was nominated for this award by her professors. She was recently selected for the Department's Accounting Faculty Award on the basis of her academic standing and leadership ability. This summer, Lauren will be an intern in the internal audit department at Martinsburg Bank and Trust.

April 2010

Name: Mary Renee DuFaux

College/University: Saint Louis University

Organizations Involved In: Beta Alpha Psi (Reporting Secretary-2009/2010 & President-2010/2011), Delta Sigma Pi (Chancellor-2008/2009), Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Sigma Nu, Golden Key International, Omicron Delta Kappa, and National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Accounting Field of Interest: Auditing

Reason for Nomination: Mary Renee was nominated by her professors at Saint Louis University. She was named the 2009/2010 Outstanding Senior in Accounting. Mary Renee has served as the undergraduate representative for the Department of Accounting's External Advisory Board. She received the Presidential Scholar, which is a full tuition scholarship for four years. Mary Renee is also an Accounting Scholar. She has completed the Integrated Accounting program (the Bachelor's portion) at Saint Louis University in only 3 years. Mary Renee will start the Master's portion of the program in the 2010 fall semester, which will enable her to graduate at the end of 4 years with both her Bachelor's and Master's. She interned at Ernst and Young. Beginning next summer (2011), Mary Renee will start an auditing position with them.

March 2010

Name: Michael Squires

College/University: Drury University

Organizations Involved In: SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise); Breech School of Business Advisory Board; Drury Ambassadors; Accounting department tutor; Disciples on Campus.

Accounting Field of Interest: Auditing

Reason for Nomination: Michael was nominated by his professors at Drury University. Dr. Penny Clayton said, "He has been a standout in our accounting program since the first day he registered for a Principles in Accounting class. Even though Michael excels academically, he also strikes a nice balance with his extracurricular activities." Michael earned the Drury University First Year Accounting award as a freshman, and set the curve in several accounting classes. He has been selected to participate in a clean-water project in the Dominican Republic. In addition to his busy schedule, Michael is simultaneously studying for the CPA exam, and plans to sit for all 4 sections before graduating this May. He has been hired by BKD, LLP in Colorado Springs as a staff accountant in auditing.

February 2010

Name: Kristi White

College/University: University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL)

Organizations Involved In: UMSL's Women's Basketball Team (Team Captain)

Accounting Field of Interest: Public Accounting

Reason for Nomination: In December 2009, Kristi was Student Marshall for the Commencement Ceremony at UMSL. Only the top student in the class is awarded this honor, which is why the professors in UMSL's Master of Accounting program nominated her for LEAP's February Student of the Month. They consider this an outstanding accomplishment, due to the fact that their accounting program is very rigorous. Kristi will graduate from UMSL in December 2010.

January 2010

Name: Jordan Jackson

College/University: Southwest Baptist University (SBU)

Organizations Involved In: Delta Epsilon Chi, Alpha Chi, SBU Football (four years), and College Sports Information Directors of America ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team for football in November 2009

Accounting Field of Interest: Public Accounting

Reason for Nomination: Jordan was nominated for this award, by the professors in SBU's accounting program, for his outstanding achievements. He starts taking the CPA exam in April, and graduates Summa Cum Laude in May. Jordan has been hired by BKD, in Springfield, Missouri, as a staff accountant in the audit department.

December 2009

Name: David C. Chen

College/University: University of Missouri - Columbia (Mizzou)

Organizations Involved In: Beta Alpha Psi (President) and Association of Accountancy Students (Recording Secretary)

Accounting Field of Interest: Tax

Reason for Nomination: David served as a Peer Advisor for the Department of Residential Life, Recording Secretary for the Association of Accountancy Students, and President of Beta Alpha Psi. He was selected to be an Ernst & Young Mentor, a member of the Deloitte Tax Challenge, a Teaching Assistant for an introductory accounting class, an assistant to Dr. Loren Nikolai for three years, and a member of the Graduation Event Committee. He has made the Dean's List every semester, and has received numerous scholarships. He interned with Ernst & Young LLP for two summers. Upon graduation in May 2010, David will go to work in the tax group for Ernst & Young LLP in St. Louis, Missouri.

November 2009

Name: Lindsey M. Brownsberger

College/University: Missouri State University

Accounting Field of Interest: Public Accounting - specializing in Forensic Accounting

Reason for Nomination: Lindsey was nominated by Dick Williams, Director of the School of Accounting.  She was selected the Outstanding Graduating Senior in the School of Accountancy and the College of Business Administration. Lindsey is also the Missouri State University Becker Professional Review Campus Representative. In June 2010, she will be going to work for Kollmeyer and Co., LLC in Springfield, Missouri as a public accountant.
