College
Entrance Exams
There are two college entrance exams you will need to look into before you apply for college, ACT® and SAT®.
Below is some information on each, and links to both web sites.
ACT®
The ACT® is a national college admissions examination,
which covers english, mathematics, reading, and science. It also includes an optional 30-minute writing
test. The test consists of 215 multiple-choice questions. It takes approximately 3 hours
and 30 minutes to complete.
ACT®
results are accepted by all 4-year colleges and universities in
the U.S. It is administered on six test dates within the 50 United States and the District of Columbia
– in September, October, December, February, April, and June. In other locations, the ACT® is administered on five test dates – all of the above
dates except September.
ACT® provides online practice tests with
real ACT®
test questions, and practice essays for the optional ACT® Writing Test. It also offers real-time scoring.
Currently the
basic fee for the ACT®
is $32.00. This fee includes a report for you, your high school, and up to four colleges of your choice.

SAT®
The SAT® is the nation’s most widely
used college admissions test. It is taken by more than two million students every year, and is accepted
by virtually all colleges and universities.
The SAT® measures knowledge of subjects
learned in the classroom, including reading, writing, and math, and how well you can apply that knowledge outside of the classroom.
It
is offered during the months of October, November, December, January, March, May, and June. The test is
administered on Saturdays. For those students who cannot take the test on Saturday, due to religious observance
it is offered on Sunday.
SAT® offers the SAT® Preparation Center, which includes numerous ways to study for the test.
The
registration fee for SAT®
is $45.00. Because the fees for the SAT® Subject Tests differ, a $20 basic fee is added to the total for all subjects
taken. For a schedule of the fees, and other useful information, click here: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/calenfees/fees.html
